The new floating Crop toolbar takes the guesswork out of image cropping.
Easiest to Use
The learning curve for Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo is practically nonexistent thanks to the program's Learning Center. New users with digital cameras don't want to spend time learning a complicated application--they want to see results immediately. With award-winning learning tools, and an extensive collection of one-click fixes for common problems, users of all experience levels can get the job done quickly and effortlessly. Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo also gives you the ability to automate the image-editing commands you use most often, saving you time and effort.

Fastest Route to Professional Quality
The ease of use that separates Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo from the competition doesn't come at the expense of the total control for more sophisticated image editing that professional photographers demand. For every one-click solution, there are also tools and features for manual fine-tuning, which are ideal for users with specific image-editing and correction needs.

Absolute Best Value
Some might measure the value of software by what it costs; others might focus on what can be derived by using it. In either case, Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo XI offers the best value in image-editing software available today. It contains a complete digital photography toolkit, which can help you edit, share, and manage your photos and create special photo projects. Based on user feedback, Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo has simplified the steps for the most common image-editing tasks, so that anyone can get to work within seconds of launching the application. Advanced users get all the professional-level tools and features usually found only in expensive image-editing applications.

The Organizer is a one-stop photo management center.
Photo Organization Built Right In
There's much more to Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo than powerful image-editing tools and features. It's a multi-faceted digital photography suite that lets you effortlessly import, organize, and share their photos with the built-in Organizer. This one-stop photo management center takes the guesswork out of finding photos stored in your hard drive. You can search for images by filename, date, file type, or folder location. Thumbnail zooming makes finding a particular image even easier and faster. The ability to assign keywords, ratings, and other information to an image gives you even more ways to search for photos. The Organizer is customizable, so you have several options for integrating it into your workflow. In addition, EXIF-data editing and the ability to play and extract frames from video files make the Organizer an essential, time-saving tool for hobbyists and professionals alike.

Essential Photo Tools For Everyday Jobs
Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo is renowned for being user-friendly, and that's because user feedback has always played a huge role in the program's development. From requesting one-click automatic fixes that take the guesswork out of image correction to insisting on advanced tools to meet the exacting standards in digital photography, the user has spoken, and Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo has responded.

  • Crop Tool: In response to user feedback, the Crop tool has been enhanced to give users the exact dimensions they want in a snap. When the user selects an area of an image with the Crop tool, a floating toolbar appears below the selected area, allowing them to choose a predefined crop size or to rotate the selected crop area. The new floating Crop toolbar takes the guesswork out of image cropping.
  • One-Step Fixes: Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo XI has several features that allow an image to be analyzed automatically and corrected with a single click. The One Step Photo Fix command automatically adjusts the color balance, contrast, clarity, and saturation of an image. The One Step Purple Fringe Fix command gets rid of the purple glow that sometimes appears around edges of objects under certain lighting conditions. And the One Step Noise Removal command identifies and eliminates the excess "noise" artifacts that are often seen in digital photos.
  • Smart Photo Fix: The Smart Photo Fix analyzes a photo and suggests settings for auto-corrections of color, brightness, sharpness, and saturation--all in one easy step. Completely flexible, you can apply the one-click fix or experiment further by manually fine-tuning the settings. At any point, if you decide that you prefer the results of the initially suggested fix, you can quickly reapply the suggested settings. Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo XI gives you the flexibility to experiment freely with confidence, knowing that you can always revert to your starting point.

Editing Tools You Can't Find Anywhere Else
Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo has a powerful toolset that can fix virtually any digital photo imperfection. If the problem stems from the quality of the image produced by the camera, you'll find a series of tools that offer easy, quick corrections. Or, if photo subjects don't look their best in the photo, Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo can spruce up their appearance.
  • Color Changer Tool: The Color Changer tool lets users easily change colors in their digital images to achieve more realistic colors. Rather than simply replacing a color, the Color Changer tool detects and analyzes variations in brightness caused by real-world illumination and reapplies the illumination to the new color to produce a realistic effect.
  • Depth of Field Effect: Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo XI lets you draw attention to a specific area of an image. The new Depth of Field effect lets you apply focus to a region of a photo while applying an out-of-focus blur to the rest of the image. This allows you to easily replicate the look of the depth of field found in high-end cameras.

1 out of 5 stars Hold On Before Purchase   July 27, 2008
Like other reviewers here, I, too, recommend stopping at version 8. Above that, I've encountered glitches that drive me nuts. For example, with ver.9 and up, I often encounter dialogue boxes telling me my system is short of memory and cannot perform tasks at hand. The 1st time this happened, I had 3.5Gbs system memory. On a new computer, I had 4 GB and still encountered the problem. On my latest system, I have 8 GB system memory and I am still being stopped in my tracks for "lack of system memory". There are freezes, too, and, as others noted here, PSP X, XI up are painfully slow to work with. I really hated to say goodbye to PSP but it is no longer what it was when JASC owned the company.

1 out of 5 stars Many, many problems   April 17, 2008

I've been a loyal Paint Shop Pro user since version 3. I've used it on major commercial design projects, right alongside Photoshop on my Mac and Gimp on my Linux box. Sadly, version XI is one of the poorest software builds of any product I have ever seen. It locks up, won't start, won't close, takes forever to load, and has issues with many fundamental functions such as JPEG formats, loading/saving files, cache management, and thumbnail generation! Really, it is just unbelievably bad. Worse, when it crashes, although you can kill it from Windows Task Manager, it will immediately crash if you try to launch it again -- you'll have to reboot your computer to get it to work. Moreover, it is painfully slow, even on my fast Intel Core 2 Duo box with dual-channel memory and SATA drives. My advice to users is to stick with Version 9.

2 out of 5 stars Not what I was expecting   January 7, 2008

I must admit I am a novice in respect to digital photography but this program is a little too complicated for me (more than I can handle at this point). The cyber-shot viewer that came with my camera met my needs for photo editing but did not offer a "delete picture" option or the capacity to print to a disk. I thought the print to disk option was a part of the Paint Shop package which it does not appear to be.

4 out of 5 stars Happy Customer   December 15, 2007
I purchased this program specifically to pick images from two different photos and place them on a third picture as a background.

It worked great. For the most part this is a relatively easy program to use and it can do big tricks...

I like it, would recommend it.

1 out of 5 stars Don't upgrade unless u have a supercomputer   December 11, 2007

I've been a loyal PSP fan since the shareware days. After sticking with version 8.x for years, I thought I'd take advantage of an attractive upgrade offer from Corel to go to version XI.

My machine isn't the greatest, but it's not the worst either (2.5GHz with 2GB RAM) and this program was *painful* to try to use. Even after they released the patch, it was practically unusable and brought the entire system to a crawl. The installer changes the file associations for images to point to PSP XI which is normal. However, I would forget this and try to do a quick open of an image file and literally cringe when that splash screen of the girl with the camera appeared knowing it would be several excruciating seconds before I could shut the app down and open the image in something usable. I finally just un-installed the thing and went back to version 8.x. It's too bad. I really hoped to take advantage of some of the advanced features offered in PSP and Photoshop is priced way out of my league.
